Puna geothermal power plant in Hawaii taken offline due to lava flows nearby

The outbreak of Kilauea Volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii has affected the geothermal power plant of Puna Geothermal Ventures, which has been temporarily shut down.

The geothermal power plant of Puna Geothermal Venture on the Big Island of Hawaii has executed its emergency plans, temporarily shutting down and removing any potential hazardous chemicals.

This follows a series of smaller earthquakes and eruption of the Kilauea Volcano and ongoing lava flows affecting areas surrounding the volcano, including the Puna Geothermal Power Plant.

Evacuations have been ordered due to the dangers of the lava and gases from the flowing lava. Despite the shutdown of the geothermal Hawaii Electric Light does not expect a power generation shortfall.
