RamRei Energy has filed a request for permission from the Government of Canary Islands to explore for a high-enthalpy geothermal resource in Lanzarote.

Tenerife-based RamRei Energy has requested authorization from the Government of Canary Islands to carry out an investigation of the geothermal resources on the southern portion of Lanzarote, specifically in the municipality of Yaiza. The request permit area covers 76.25 square kilometers.

According to the request submitted by RamRei Energy, the investigation aims to determine if there is a geothermal resource with temperatures above 150 degrees Celsius. The document continues to state that thermal anomalies outside the perimeter of the Timanfaya National Park have been identified by “geophysical indicators and results of preliminary numerical models.”

The company intends to invest EUR 225,000 for the geothermal investigation for the three years that the permit may grant for research. This budget does not include the cost of possible thermometric surveys.

In 2022, we reported on a project by the Ministry of Ecological Transition of the Canary Islands and the Public University of Navarra to conduct a feasibility study on geothermal power generation in Lanzarote using a thermoelectric generator.
