Relocation of Negros geothermal plant to be concluded in 2014

Due to low steam power, EDC’s Northern Negros Geothermal Power Plant was decided to be relocated to Nasulo in the SE of the Negros island in the Philippines. ABB will be handling the relocation efforts and it is expected to be completed this year.

In an announcement by ABB that reports that the company has been awarded a contract to “supply the telecommunications system, protection system, instrument and electrical equipment and services” for the Northern Negros project to Nasulo in the Southern part of the same island of Negros.
The rationale behind the relocation was due to a lack of sufficient steam to fully utilize the potential and capability of the machinery installed there. The plant is owned by EDC and took the decision to relocate and got ABB to take care of the relocation efforts. It should be noted that Sumitomo Corp is the EPC contractor in the project.
The same source reports that the Northern Negros Relocation project is expected to be completed this year.
