Request for Information – Geothermal exploration and development in Texas

The Texas General Land Office has issued a Request for Information for geothermal exploration and development in all GLO-owned surface lands.
The Texas General Land Office (GLO) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to solicit interest in geothermal energy exploration and development on surface lands owned by the Texas GLO. Responses to this RFI are due by 10 December 2026.

The GLO will consider lands nominated in this process for a future Request for Proposals, at the office’s discretion. Information from this RFI will also help the agency decide on the type of geothermal projects to consider in specific tracts, and the structure of the geothermal production lease. Take note that the RFI does not constitute a solicitation for bids and does not commit the GLO to lease any nominated tract.
Geothermal developers with previous projects in Texas, or completed or ongoing projects in the United States or internationally are invited to participate in this RFI. Respondents will need to specify which type of geothermal development to pursue (e.g. power generation, enhanced geothermal, direct-use), as well as a project timeline and development plan.
