Royalties from geothermal on U.S. federal land around $12 million per year

Geothermal energy royalties from projects on federal land have provided royalties of around $12.3 million annually to the U.S. Department of the Interior as released in a recent report.

The U.S. Federal government derived around $130 million in royalties from geothermal projects on Federal land in California, Nevada and Utah between 2003 and 2013. In a nice website, the U.S. Department of the Interior provides an overview on the royalties it derives from natural resources on Federal lands.

While in the overall context geothermal presents a fraction of the $100 billion in royalties (there are also additional bonuses, rents and other revenues)

In 2013, geothermal royalties were around $12.3 million, wind royalties around $5.8 million, while oil royalties were around $48 billion and gas $42 billion.
