The upcoming I RAVG 2026 will provide a platform for scientific exchange and collaboration on geothermal energy and volcanology in Argentina.

The Volcanology and Geothermal Commission (COMVOLGEO) of the Argentine Geological Association (AGA) has announced the First Argentine Meeting on Volcanology and Geothermal Energy (I RAVG). This new event will provide a platform that will bring together researchers, professionals, students and institutional representatives linked to the study of volcanic and geothermal systems.

To be held from September 28 to October 2, 2026 in the city of Salta, Argentina , the event aims to promote the exchange of knowledge, strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, and foster dialogue between different generations and institutions dedicated to Earth sciences. The I RAVG will combine scientific and technical activities with field trips, offering a unique opportunity to discuss the latest advances in volcanology and geothermal energy, as well as to analyze in the field some of the most representative geological systems of northwestern Argentina.

I RAVG has the support of the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) and the International Geothermal Association (IGA), reinforcing the regional and international character of this first edition.

Activities will begin on Monday, September 28, with participant registration and a welcome meeting. The scientific sessions will take place on September 29 and October 2 at the facilities of COPAIPA (Professional Council of Surveyors, Engineers, and Related Professions), located in downtown Salta. The program will include plenary lectures, oral presentations, poster sessions, and technical discussion forums focused on sharing research results, field experiences, and technological advancements.

Technical excursions will take place between September 30 and October 1. The volcanology package includes visits to the Quebrada de las Conchas , where outcrops associated with Cretaceous volcanism will be analyzed, and to the Puna region , with special attention to Neogene volcanism and deposits related to the Plinian eruption of Ramadas. In parallel, a program dedicated to geothermal energy is planned, which will include visits to geothermal systems of scientific and energy interest, subject to confirmation by the organizers.

With this first edition, the Argentine Geological Association seeks to establish a leading platform to promote research, scientific cooperation, and the development of volcanic and geothermal sciences in the country. The event also represents an opportunity to strengthen the role of geothermal energy within the regional energy transition, fostering the exchange of experiences and knowledge among the scientific community, the public sector, and industry.

PiensaGeotermia will participate as an official media partner of the I RAVG, supporting the dissemination and coverage of the meeting for the geoscientific and geothermal community of Latin America.
