Slim well drilling campaign starting at Cisolok geothermal site

Government funded slim well drilling campaign officially kicked off for the Cisolok geothermal working area in Indonesia.

The government’s move to encourage geothermal utilization through the government drilling program has been realized by drilling in the Cisolok Geothermal Working Area (WKP) this week as reported by Kontan. Head of the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eko Budi Lelono, said that the drilling at WKP Cisolok will be carried out at two well locations, namely CKK-01 and CKK-02.

Eko revealed that the CKK-01 well is located in a national park area, while the CKK-02 well is in a community area. “The CKK-01 well is in the Mount Halimun Salak National Park (TNGHS) and CKK-02 in the community area.

Geothermal activities according to Law Number 21 of 2014 can be carried out in conservation areas,” said Eko at the inauguration of the Slim Hole Drilling Project. Geothermal that was held virtual, on Friday September 3, 2021.

Eko added that the potential development of the CKK-02 well is carried out by land acquisition considering the location is in a community area. In this area the resource potential is predicted to reach 45 MW.

Meanwhile, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif hopes that geothermal development can run smoothly in the next three months. During this time, the drilling carried out is expected to obtain sufficient data to then be offered to investors. “The point is to be able to identify geothermal resources in the location,” said Arifin.

Arifin continued, in the future the Eastern Indonesia region will be the focus of geothermal development considering the huge potential that exists. It is noted that the government drilling plan for this year will also be carried out in East Nusa Tenggara.

“To be able to make good use of it, especially for the programs that we do, there are actually 8 locations, in West Java 2 locations, one in NTT,” said Arifin. Arifin said that the need for clean energy is also a consideration for the need for geothermal development in Eastern Indonesia.
