Sumitomo consortium wins Lampung contract

Indonesian PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy wants Japanese Sumitomo to build units 3 and 4 for Ulubelu’s geothermal project with 55MW each and to be completed by 2016.

Local news detail that PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), which is a subsidiary of PT Pertamina has recently invited the Japanese company Sumitomo-Industrial Engineering to build Ulubelu’s units 3 and 4 geothermal power plants.

“PGE has signed a cooperation implementation of engineering, procurement and construction Ulubelu 3 and 4 with a consortium of Sumitomo-Rekin,” said VP of Corporate Communications of Pertamina Ali Mundakir, in a recent press statement according to the same source.

The cooperation project aims to install two 55 MW turbines and expanding Pertamina’s geothermal share in the energy pool.

“Ulubelu 3 is expected to be completed in 2016 and ready to provide environmentally friendly energy to Lampung and surrounding areas,” added Ali.

Ali also expected that Unit 4 would shortly go online once Unit 3 goes online.

“This is part of Pertamina’s efforts to increase the utilization of renewable energy sources in the country,” added Ali.
