Sustainability Award to Zorlu Energy in combating climate crisis

Turkey’s largest geothermal player Zorlu Energy has received a prestigious award for its Zero Carbon Footprint Forests Project in Turkey.

Turkish energy company Zorlu Energy has received an award with its ‘Zero Carbon Footprint Forests Project’ for contributing to the realization of the sustainable development goals defined by the United Nations.

The Zero Carbon Footprint Forests Project, which was implemented in the name of combating the climate crisis and a sustainable future, was awarded the silver achievement award at the Sustainable Development Goals Awards organized by the Corporate Social Responsibility Association of Turkey.

Zorlu Energy implemented the “Zero Carbon Footprint Forests Project” in 2010 in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Mehmet Zorlu Foundation in order to reset the carbon footprint resulting from its activities, and aims to plant 1.2 million saplings by 2030. The company also stated that they want to plant 90 thousand saplings every year during the project.

With a total installed geothermal power generation capacity of 290 MW, Zorlu Energy is the largest geothermal company in Turkey.

Funda Kücükosmanoglu, Corporate Communications Group Manager of Zorlu Energy, said: “As Zorlu Energy, we aim to zero the carbon footprint arising from our activities, as well as adopting decarbonization-oriented ways of doing business in order to combat the growing global climate crisis. With our strategy we developed for this, we are trying to contribute to the decarbonization and biodiversity development of not only our own operations, but also our country, by focusing on creating a restorative business model and value chain. We have implemented many projects that add value to sustainable development goals, based on the understanding of ‘respect for the environment and people first’, which we have built on the basis of our way of doing business. As a reward for our efforts, we have planted more than 330 thousand saplings in total within the scope of the ‘Zero Carbon Footprint Forests Project’, which we started 10 years ago and was crowned with this meaningful award. We aim to contribute to our country’s struggle for decarbonization with each sapling we bring to the soil and to reach our goal of being a carbon neutral company for the year 2030. In this way, we will continue to create useful works for a sustainable world, taking into account the welfare of the society, with all our corporate social responsibility projects that we will implement in the future as well as today.”
