Tender – Drilling of geothermal wells at four sites in Croatia
A tender has been announced to drill additional geothermal wells at four sites in Croatia where initial drilling has already been undertaken by AZU.
The Ministry of Economy of Croatia has published a tender for the drilling of additional geothermal wells at four sites where exploration drilling had already been undertaken by the Croatian Hydrocarbon Agency (AZU). This will create production-injection pairs at each of the four sites and thus provide the foundation for the future utilization of thermal fluids.
Applications under this call will be accepted only until 30 June 2026. More details and the relevant documents can be accessed at the EUfondovi website (requires an EU connection).
From 2025 to 2026, AZU has undertaken geothermal exploration drilling at four sites – Velika Gorica, Osijek, Vinkovci, and Zapresic. The results of the drilling campaign were remarkable, with commercially exploitable geothermal resources confirmed at each of the four sites. Moreover, Croatian Electric Power Company (HEP), the national power company of Croatia, commented that the corporation already provides heating services and invests in infrastructure in all four cities and has expressed interest in contributing to their development.
The activities included under this call for applications include the drilling of four additional geothermal wells (Velika Gorica GT-2, Osijek GT-2, Vinkovci GT-2, and Zapresic GT-2), project management and administration, and project promotion and visibility. A total grant amount of EUR 30 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is being offered. The maximum co-financing rate of the total costs of the project is 85%.
