Tender – Exploratory geothermal drilling in two sites in Belgrade, Serbia

A tender has been published for exploratory geothermal drilling in Belgrade, Serbia as the city seeks to transition its district heating plants to geothermal.
The public utility company Beogradske Elektrana has posted a tender for the drilling of exploratory geothermal wells at the sites of two heating plants operated by the company in Belgrade, Serbia. Bids will be accepted only until 19 October 2026.
Drilling is planned on the sites of two heating plants – in Novi Beograd and Miljakovac. The proposed work follows previous investigations done in Belgrade that have indicated that some heating plants have the potential to utilize geothermal energy. Serbia has already had success in implementing geothermal district heating in the city of Bogatic, which started construction in 2018.
The planned exploratory drilling program aims to characterize the potential geothermal resource through the collection of thermal gradient data and drilling data and analysis of physico-chemical properties. Petrological analyses of rock samples are also planned to understand the stratigraphy of the drilling sites, as well as better define their hydrogeological characteristics. One of the primary goals is to update existing geological and geophysical models, possibly in relation to other prospective geothermal district heating locations.
Other technical data, such as planned drilling depth and the contract amount, can only be accessed by registered bidders through the National Public Procurement Portal.
