Tenders for geothermal resource research published for La Palma and Gran Canaria

The Government of Canary Islands has announced a public tender for geothermal resource research programs in Gran Canaria and La Palma.

The Government of the Canary Islands through the Ministry of Tourism, Industry, and Commerce has announced a public tender for the selection of geothermal resource research programs applicable to pre-determined study areas in the island of Gran Canaria and La Palma.

A similar tender had previously been announced for the island of Tenerife.

Details on the public tender are available on the official tender documents – linked here are the documents for Gran Canaria and La Palma. The study areas correspond to areas where previously held mining rights have expired. The areas also represent potential in terms of high-enthalpy geothermal resources based on studies done by the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain, Instituto Volcanológico de Canarias (INVOLCAN), Instituto Tecnológico y de Energías Renovables, S.A. (ITER), and various universities.

Requests for participation can be submitted via the electronic platform of the Government of the Canary Islands accessible via this link.

The Government of Canary Islands had recently announced funding for geothermal exploration and research in the high-potential islands of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and La Palma.
