ThinkGeoEnergy enters a new chapter with website refresh

After nearly 18 years and more than 18,000 geothermal news stories, ThinkGeoEnergy launches a refreshed website to support its next phase of growth.

Just ahead of going into our annual summer break, I thought it is time to share a little bit of an update. When ThinkGeoEnergy first went online in late 2008, the objective was straightforward: provide news and updates on global geothermal development something that at that time received very little international attention.

As I look back, I never imagined that ThinkGeoEnergy would become what it is today nor continue to evolve. For me and so many other “passionate international geothermalists”, the sector has given me the opportunity to work with and learn from remarkable people around the world and witness how geothermal has steadily matured. It continues to inspire me every day, and there is still much work to do. We remain committed to playing our part in supporting the industry’s continued growth.

Over the years we certainly have seen certain waves of growing and again fading interest in geothermal. Now nearly 18 years later, geothermal energy has changed dramatically. So has ThinkGeoEnergy .

Since publishing our first articles, on the then blog, we have now published almost 18,000 stories from around the world. We have followed projects from exploration to operation, covered technological breakthroughs, reported on policy develpoments and market trends, and witnessed geothermal evolve from a niche segment of the renewable energy space into an increasingly important part of the global energy transition.

While our commitment to independent news remains unchanged, a lot of our work today takes place behind the scenes.

As from the very beginning, we are focused on supporting the geothermal energy sector. So over the last few years, we have been investing in expanding our research capabilities, building structured geothermal intelligence, strengthening our data resources, and engaging more closely with companies, developers, investors, governments and organisations across the sector.  With all of this our aim remains simple: we want to help the geothermal energy industry make better-informed decisions through trusted information, research and market insight.

A refreshed platform for the next stage

Over the year’s ThinkGeoEnergy has evolved and we felt that our website should reflect this as well.  So we worked in the background on a new website featuring a cleaner design, improved navigation and a modernised visual identity, including an updated logo, that we are proud to be launching this week. With the redesign we intended to make it easier for readers to discover our reporting while creating a stronger foundation for future developments.

But a relaunch like this is not without its challenges.  Our website now contains nearly 18 years of reporting and close to 18,000 published articles. This is an extensive archive that makes migration a bit of a larger undertaking. While we have worked carefully to preserve that legacy, we expect that there might be some hiccups that need attention during the first days after launch. Please be patient while we are going through this transition from the old to our new site.

Continuing to invest in the geothermal community

The redesign of our platform is though only one part of a broader effort on preparing ThinkGeoEnergy for the future.

For the remainder of 2026, readers can expect more interviews with makers and doers in our industry, expanded coverage of emerging geothermal markets, closer attention to startups and new technologies, and continued investment in research and market intelligence. We are continue to work on our engagement with the global geothermal community through events, partnerships and new editorial initiatives.

One area that will continue to grow is our webinar programme. Since launching the series together with Enerchange, it has become an important platform for sharing knowledge and connecting professionals from across the industry. We are pleased to welcome Alternative Earth as the flagship sponsor of the webinar series, helping us continue to provide high-quality discussions on the topics shaping geothermal’s future.

Thank you

None of this would be possible without the continued support of our readers, partners, advertisers, contributors and the many organisations and individuals who share information and insights with us every day.

I would also like to thank the ThinkGeoEnergy team. Their dedication, curiosity and professionalism make it possible to publish independent reporting every day while simultaneously building the next generation of services behind the scenes.

As every year, the reporting of ThinkGeoEnergy will take a short summer break from 7 to 21 July, with the next newsletter coming July 28, 2026. This time will give us the opportunity to launch our new website and resolve any issues that arise following the relaunch before we continue news coverage again on July 21, and prepare for what promises to be a busy second half of the year.

We are looking very much forward to return after our summer break with renewed energy and this with a refreshed platform and the same commitment that has guided ThinkGeoEnergy from the very beginning: to serve the global geothermal community with trusted journalism, research and insight.

Thank you for being part of that journey.
