Transmark successfully spuds well at Canakkale project, Turkey

Transmark Turkey successfully spudded its second production sized well located at the south-western rim of the Biga Peninsula, Çanakkale province, NW Turkey.

According to a recent press release, Transmark Turkey successfully spudded its second production sized well, KOC II, after having decided to abandon its first well, KOC I. Reaching its envisaged targeted depth of 1500 meters, and primarily due to geological hole conditions, it was decided to drill a new well and use KOC I as future monitor well. With its exploration character, this first well has provided strong and valuable geological information, but more importantly, proved the required geothermal potential in the Kocakoy license, by a strong temperature gradient profile. KOC II will be drilled on the same drill site and is envisaged to be completed within 60 days.

Transmark Service’s 125 tons Semi-trailer Mounted Rig Gerry-II is drilling KOC II.

KOC-II well site is located at the south-western rim of the Biga Peninsula, Çanakkale province, NW Turkey. Çanakkale is well-known for its geothermal surface manifestations and exploration projects. 7.5 MW Tuzla Geothermal Power Plant (GEPP) is present in the vicinity of KOC-1 drill site.

Transmark Turkey has three geothermal concessions (Gülpinar, Kocaköy and Babakale) located in the Gülpinar area and is one of the most active players in the region. Transmark Services’s exploration team has applied advanced exploration methods to generate a geothermal conceptual model and proposed a production well target. Some of the studies that has been utilized are; remote sensing, structural geology, geochemistry and geophysics with MT surveys. The surveys with a specific focus allowed for in depth review of the experienced exploration team and confirmations from multiple well-known experts in their fields.

Deemed to be one of the “hottest” markets in Europe for geothermal, Turkey is the seventh most promising country in the world in geothermal energy potential. Thus, Transmark Turkey has a dedicated strategy to remain a leading player in the Turkish geothermal market.
