Two Chilean projects expect to be starting operations in 2016

Enel Green Power and GeoGlobal Energy are waiting for results of an environmental analysis by authorities in Chile and expect to bring their 120 MW or 70 MW respectively online by 2016.

The Environmental Evaluation Service of Chile is – so reported by Power Engineering – is currently evaluating two projects, which are both expecting to start operating in 2016.

The projects are the Cerro Pabellon in Antofagasta region by Enel Green Power and the other is the Curacautin in Tolhuaca by GeoGlobal Energy (now Mighty River Power as reported this morning)

They have a combined capacity of around 190 MW, 120 MW for Enel’s project at Cerro Pabellon with an expected project cost of $480 million, and 70 MW for GeoGlobal’s Curacautin project with an expected project cost of $300 million.

There are a total of 70 geothermal concessions awarded to 10 companies in Chile and could add more than 1,000 MW of geothermal power generation capacity to Chile’s energy mix by 2025.
