UK and World Bank support 50 MW geothermal project in Indonesia

Indonesia’s Ministry for Energy and Mineral Resources is said to cooperate with the UK government and the World Bank on the development of a 50 MW geothermal project on Flores Island.

Indonesia’s Ministry for Energy and Mineral Resources announces plans for the development of a 50 MW geothermal power project on Flores Island in East Nusa Tenggara.

Yunus Saefulhak, the Director for Geothermal at the Ministry said it will cooperate with the the United Kingdom (UK) and the World Bank.

“We will make the road map with the UK,” as reported locally this morning. The island has a lot of possible spots for geothermal development and an estimated development potential of 1,900 MW.

There are currently two geothermal power plants on the island, the 10 MW Ulumbu (Manggarai) plant and the 2.5 MW Malaloko plant in Ende.

He explained Flores island has many potential geothermal hot spots. The island has at least 1,900 MW of geothermal energy potential.
