Update on FORGE roadmap etc by U.S. DOE Geothermal Technologies Office
In its recent webinar, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Geothermal Technologies Office provided an update on its activities on its Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE) in Utah highlighting work done on a roadmap for the groundbreaking research.
In its recently held Webinar, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) provided an update on its recent activities.
Following years of neglect and limited funding, geothermal energy work by the office has increased from USD 55 million in 2015 to USD 84 million allocated for 2019. The presentation can be downloaded here (ppt).

In a presentation on the Utah Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE), Alexis McKittrick of IDA/ STPI provided an overview on the roadmap that has been developed for the project.
The roadmap describes critical research areas, such as core and supporting research actions, enabling R&D elements, and implementation principles.
Critical research areas are described as Stimulation, Planning and Design, Fracture Control, Reservoir Management.
Supporting components of the roadmap to enable R&D are: subsurface characterization, drilling, well completions, and induced seismicity management.
Supporting components of the roadmap as implementing principles are cross-cutting research principles and operational considerations.
