Local firm ACE Engineering Ltd. has been contracted to construct two wells pads, access roads to the sites, and temporary water supply for the drilling operations planned for the 10-MW geothermal project in the Carribbean country of Dominica. These are located in the village of Laudat in the Rouseau Valley.
Minister for Planning, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, Sustainable Development, and Renewable Energy of Dominica Dr. Vince Henderson recently visited the site for the ongoing construction works. He confirmed the progress being made on the two wells pads and outlined that the project will take around 18 months.
After being hit by Hurricane Maria in 2017, the government of Dominica initiated projects aimed towards climate resiliency. In addition to the geothermal power plant, the government also put up climate-resilient houses and schools.
Earlier this year, the government of Dominica signed a $12.5-million contact with the Iceland Drilling Company for the drilling of two geothermal wells as we reported.
