US DOE publishes storymap on lithium and geothermal

The US Department of Energy GTO in partnership with NREL has published a storymap on the value of lithium and the potential of lithium extraction from geothermal brine.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) in partnership with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have published an excellent resource on the increasing value of lithium and why the DOE in investing in technologies that support lithium extraction from geothermal brines. The Lithium Storymap provides all the essential information in an easily digestible and engaging format.

Of particular focus in the story map is the potential of the Salton Sea geothermal resource as a “lithium motherlode.” An article published by The Conversation earlier this year discusses how the brine from the geothermal plants in Salton Sea can already supply the lithium demand of the entire U.S. Companies like Controlled Thermal Resources, EnergySource Minerals, and BHE Renewables all have lithium extraction projects in the Salton Sea at varying stages of development.
