Wayland Energy connects six greenhouse companies to geothermal heat source in the Netherlands

In the horticultural area around Bergschenhoek in the Netherlands, sustainable energy company Wayland Energy, has recently connected six new greenhouse horticultural companies to its geothermal heat source. The greenhouse operators are on Anthuriumweg and Warmoeziersweg in Bleiswijk, Netherlands..

One of the new customers is Anthura in Bleiswijk, a specialist in breeding and propagation of anthuriums and orchids. “In addition to striving for continuous quality improvement of our flowers and plants, we also focus on making production processes more sustainable. It is important that we make this move. This is a future-proof and sustainable investment, “said Mark van der Knaap, director of Anthura.

A total of sixteen cultivation companies have now been connected

Drilling for the geothermal project started in mid-2017 and the first horticulturalist was connected later that year. In total, sixteen horticulture companies in this greenhouse area are now heated sustainably. The geothermal heat source supplies 20 MWth, which saves 22,000 kilotons of CO2 and saves 12 million m3 of natural gas.
