Webinar – Geothermal development by Deutsche Erdwärme – Nov 12, 2021

Learn more about the ongoing geothermal projects by developer Deutsche Erdwärme in the Upper Rhine Graben, Germany.

As part of the regular IGC Webinar series – a partnership of Enerchange and ThinkGeoEnergy – we are proud to host presenter Sebastian Homuth of geothermal developer Deutsche Erdwärme, who will speak about “The Geothermal Power Plant Project Graben-Neudorf – and further development plans of Deutsche Erdwärme in the Upper Rhine Graben.

After the presentation you have the possibility to discuss and ask questions.

After completion of the drilling site and the safety systems, the thermal water reservoir identified near Graben-Neudorf will be developed by drilling two wells. The reservoir at a depth of 3,500 to 3,700 meters will be used to produce renewable heat and renewable electricity from geothermal energy.

The first well is expected to start drilling in January 2022, when the planned monitoring systems to protect the groundwater and the seismic network are installed. If the well is successful, the planned geothermal plant will be able to supply more than 10,000 households a year with renewable electricity from 2024 or, if connected to a heating network, replace 27 million litres of heating oil a year in the medium term. Under these conditions, Graben-Neudorf could achieve climate neutrality well before 2050.
