With over 1.1 GW of installed geothermal capacity (combined heat and power), Hungary has established itself as one of the leaders of a growing geothermal industry in the Central and Eastern Europe region. In this webinar, Gábor Molnár will discuss the geothermal potential in Hungary and the wider Pannonian Basin region, the status of past and present geothermal projects, the challenges and solutions of geothermal development in Hungary, and the opportunities for further growth of the sector.
Gábor Molnár has been with Arctic Green Engineering Ltd (formerly Mannvit Ltd) since 2008, starting his career at the company’s headquarter in Reykjavík, Iceland. Since 2019, Gábor has been the Managing Director, leading the company’s efforts in advancing sustainable geothermal energy solutions.
His professional expertise covers the preparation, design, and implementation of geothermal heating systems, geothermal power plants, as well as shallow geothermal and heat pump solutions. Over the past 19 years, he has been involved in geothermal energy utilization projects across Europe and worldwide, working on both direct-use applications and electricity production. His roles have included senior designer, construction manager, and project manager. Notably, he served as the overall project manager for the development of Hungary’s first geothermal power plant in Tura, as well as numerous other geothermal projects.
As part of Hungary’s advocacy for the CEE geothermal sector, it will soon be hosting the 4th annual Budapest Geothermal Energy Summit, taking place on 14 September 2026. Early bird registration for the event is open until 7 September 2026.
