Registration is open for a webinar hosted by the AGA on the first large direct-use geothermal installation in Canada and relevant lessons from Australia.

Registration is currently open for a webinar to be hosted by the Australian Geothermal Association on “Geothermal heating for a new aquatic facility in Regina, Canada.” Attendance to this webinar is free for all.

The details of the event are as follows:

The City of Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada, is planning to drill deep geothermal wells to provide heating to a new, large aquatic facility. The subsurface targets for heating the aquatic facility in Regina are more than 2,000 m deep, comprising the hypersaline Winnipeg and Deadwood aquifers which are expected to produce 60°C water at a flow rate of 40 L/s.

With Perth, Australia having more than a dozen of similar systems installed over the last 2 decades, we explore the differences and use of knowledge gained in Australia as well as overseas projects in the Netherlands and France to support Canada in developing their first large direct-use geothermal installation.

About the speaker

Jorik Poessé is a geoscientist with a background in structural geology and geomechanics from his studies at Utrecht University. He has worked on hydrocarbon as well as renewable energy projects where he has been focusing on geothermal exploration.

As a geoscientist he is experienced in integrating many disciplines required for the industry such as seismic interpretation, hydrogeology, bore design, reservoir engineering and geomechanics. He has applied his skills extensively for geothermal projects throughout the Netherlands and Australia, supporting geothermal clients in exploration, resource assessment, well design, tendering and operations.
