Webinar – Geothermal innovation for economic growth in East Africa, Sept. 29, 2020
How can geothermal energy stimulate economic development beyond simple power generation in East Africa? This is the key theme of a webinar to be held in cooperation between USEA, USAID and the United Nations Energy Program (UNEP) under the auspices of the Africa Geothermal Centre of Excellence (AGCE).

Geothermal energy has countless benefits, mainly providing clean grid power at the lowest possible cost. Geothermal power plants can also provide economic benefits beyond power (or heat) as a way to stimulate and support the socio-economic development of countries in East Africa, especially near the plant itself. However, innovative technologies in other industries can provide greater power output and greater value, especially when overall grid costs are considered.
In this webinar, Kevin Kitz, founder of KitzWorks LLC a professional engineer and geothermal specialist will discuss ways that geothermal can stimulate economic development beyond simple power generation. Kitz will also discuss innovations that amplify geothermal resource benefits, both on the grid and as an engine of local economic growth in East Africa. Since there is no one “best” strategy, the workshop structure and goal is for participants to start developing strategies tailored to their particular resources, needs, and opportunities.
