West Indies Power files Environmental Impact Assessment for Nevis project

West Indies Power Nevis files the Nevis Geothermal Environmental Impact Assessment with the island’s administration last week, which is a requirement for the development of the geothermal power project by the company on this Caribbean island.

In a release by West Indies Power Nevis Ltd (WIPN), the companies announces it has filed the Nevis Geothermal Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) with the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) on December 14, 2010. The filing of the EIA with the NIA is a requirement for the development of the geothermal resources on Nevis pursuant to the Nevis Geothermal Development Ordinance and the Geothermal Resource License between WIPN and the NIA.

The EIA was also filed with the Export Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) and with the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) on December 15, 2010. The filing of this document is one of the requirements necessary to receive funding from these US government agencies.

Kerry McDonald, CEO of WIP stated: “WIPN is happy to announce the completion of this year long project to provide the necessary studies to complete and file the EIA necessary to receive the authorization to proceed with the financing and development of the geothermal resources on Nevis. This is truly a milestone in the development of geothermal power on Nevis and in the Caribbean.”

Copies of the EIA will be available at the Library in Nevis and posted on the EXIM www.exim.gov and OPIC www.opic.gov websites.
