WGC 2020, Geothermal Hackathon Machine Learning, Reykjavik 2-3 May 2020

A Geothermal Hackathon has been announced to take place in conjunction with the World Geothermal Congress 2020 in Reykjavik, Iceland. Theme of the event is Machine Learning.

A Hackaton has been announed to take place in conjunction with the World Geothermal Congress 27 April to 1 May 2020 in Reykjavik, Iceland. This is the inaugural event — be part of something new!

Help us figure out how social coding events can help explore new technology in geothermal.

The theme is machine learning. We hope this is broad enough to let you take it where you want, from open data benchmarks to model for predicting fractures, or maybe you have some data for a predictive maintenance project, or want to look for trends in production time series. We will spend the first hour or so of the event defining projects and forming teams, so come ready to brainstorm!

You can put project ideas on the Ideas tab (above) when you sign up. And please join in the discussion on the Software Underground slack group; look for the #geothermal channel.

Can I just come to part of the event?

Not really… if you want to participate, your team will need you there for the whole thing. If you really can’t make the whole thing, you’re welcome to visit, especially on Sunday between 3 and 6 — when you’ll get to see what everyone worked on.

Do I need to find a team ahead of the event?

No. Come alone or, better still, with a friend or two. You can certainly stick together if you want, but we’ll form teams at the event.

I don’t know much about programming, can I still come?

Definitely! We’ll help you get onto a team with some programmers for the coding side of things, and you can help with all the other stuff — data cleanup, visualization, interpretation, testing, presentation building, and so on. There’s always too much to do!

What are the prizes?

The prizes will be fun and/or useful technology-related things, worth up to about $600 per team.

Will there be food?

Yes! We will feed you breakfast and lunch and plenty of snacks. If you have particular needs, please let us know in advance, and/or provide your own emergency back-up rations.
