The GeoPower Market Awards 2013 were announced on Tuesday, 3 December at the GeoPower Global Congress which took place in Amsterdam earlier this week. The prestigious market awards recognised five outstanding players in the Geothermal market which have spearheaded progress and innovation in the sector over the past twelve months.
The GeoPower Global Congress took a huge leap forward in 2013, incorporating GeoHeat & Cool as an independent stream of content at this year’s Congress. To kick off the launch of this new addition to the event, the Market Awards included a brand new category – Best Heating Project 2013. Pannergy Nyrt. accepted the honour for the Miskolc Heating Project in Hungary reiterating their clear vision towards leading development of geothermal resources in the Carpathian Basin.
Another feature of the Global Congress was the emphasis on financing and investment in geothermal, highlighted through numerous finance sessions in both streams of the event and led by the award of Best Finance Deal given to Daldrup & Söhne for the Landau Geothermal Plant deal whereby they acquired a 40% stake in GeoX. Alexander Richter, Founder of ThinkGeoEnergy reiterated the importance of understanding your strategic objectives in developing your business model in the breakfast briefing on Day 2 of the event. Serendipitously, the decision to honour Daldrup & Sohne with this award was based on this same understanding.
The front runner of the awards ceremony was Exergy with a double-win in both the category of Most Innovative Technology Provider 2013 for their radial turbine centrifuge for geothermal binary plants and in the category of Geothermal Person of the Year. Claudio Spadicini, CEO of Exergy was a clear favourite for the award, driving innovation in the geothermal industry generally and striving for excellence as head of Exergy.
The big award of the morning honoured the Best Power Project of 2013. Amidst tough competition, the Ngatamariki Power Station in New Zealand was named the winner of the award, accepted by Stuart Lush of Mighty River Power. This award serves as recognition of a powerful collaboration with Ormat Technology.
Congratulations to all the shortlisted candidates and winners of the awards. For a full report on the event, speaker presentations and for information about upcoming geothermal events by GreenPower Conferences, please see the event website.
