The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) reports the results of its geothermal lease sale for Nevada, Utah and California.

In conjunction with the GRC Annual Meeting that closed this week in Sacramento, California, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) held a geothermal lease sale for parcels on federal land in the U.S..

BLM now reports having sold more than half of its geothermal leases on offer in Nevada, four out of six parcels in Utah, but none of the parcels offered in California.

Here are the results:

  • Nevada: Fourteen parcels were sold for a total of 32,075 acres, at a cost of $130,553.
  • Utah: four of six parcels sold, totalling $38,040,
  • California: none of the two parcels on offer received bids.

Ormat Nevada Inc., Blue Mountain Research & Development LLC, and Intermountain Renewable Power LLC paid up to $2.50 per acre for the leases, which are for a 10-year period.

Fifty percent of revenue from the sales goes to states, 25 percent to counties, and 25 percent is kept by the federal government.
