Abstract acceptance will soon begin for GeothermiX, a transdisciplinary conference on geothermal research on 29 Nov - 1 Dec 2023 at the University of Pisa.

Young researchers and everyone interested in geothermal research fields are being invited to GeothermiX, the first transdisciplinary conference about geothermal energy organized by PhD students. The conference will take place from 29 November to the 1st of December 2023 at the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Pisa, Italy.

Abstract submission for the conference will open on the 25th of June and will run until the 30th of July. Those who are interested in submitting abstracts are advised to check this page for updates and more details. Registration is expected to open by September.

This conference has been organised with the aim to unite people from different branches of geology and environmental science to talk about geothermics. The main topics will regard the way it can be studied, starting from the heat source, its origin, the reservoir and the water source involved. Topics on the impact of geothermal projects on the surrounding systems, and how georesources are presented and seen in society will also be discussed.

The sessions planned for the oral presentations are as follows:

  • S1 – Application of structural geology in geothermal systems
  • S2 – Geochemistry applied to geothermal systems
  • S3 – Geophysical methods applied to geothermal systems
  • S4 – Monitoring, modeling, and impacts assessment
  • S5 – Didactic and dissemination of georesources

The event program will include oral presentations from 29 to 30 November, a field trip on the 1st of December to the Larderello geothermal power plant, and a series of expert keynote talks. Moreover, the Italian Geothermal Union (UGI) is offering a grant for 10 selected PhD students to sponsor attendance to the event.
