Chile's Energy Ministry plans to auction 15 geothermal exploration licenses. Bidders are expected to spend beyond US$ 80 million on geothermal exploration with further areas and licenses to be auctioned later this year.

Reported by various sources, it is said that “Chile’s Energy Ministry plans to auction 15 geothermal exploration licenses. Bidders are expected to spend beyond US$ 80 million on geothermal exploration with further areas and licenses to be auctioned later this year.

Chile’s newly formed Ministry of Energy took over the responsibilities for geothermal development from the Ministry of Mining when it was created at the end of 2009. The spokesperson added that this second screening of bids was an integral part of the tender process.

“The only thing left to do is for those tender-winners to officially accept the concessions,” the spokesperson said.
