This year's German Geothermal Congress will be taking place digitally with the United States as partner country. Taking place November 9-13, 2020 the event will feature workshops and forums in English for an international audience.

This year’s German Geothermal Congress, which is organized annually by the German Geothermal Association, offers broad expert knowledge from science and industry in a digital format. The organizing Federal Geothermal Energy Association expects a higher proportion of international participants through the offerings of workshops and forums in English. This year’s partner country is the USA.

The congress, which will again be held online under the patronage of the Federal Minister of Economics and Energy, Peter Altmaier, offers a varied program for interested participants from science, business and local municipalities. The technical focus will be on the heat transformation in urban areas. A wide range of workshops and forums will be held, for example lectures on the topics of utilization concepts with cold local heating networks, the post-utilization of mining infrastructure for geothermal energy, as well as on the environmentally compatible expansion of shallow geothermal systems. In addition, project experiences in the implementation of deep geothermal projects in Germany and worldwide will be presented. In several virtual rooms participants can find out about these topics, ask questions and connect with each other.

This year, again, participants and speakers from all over the world will be part of the event. A highlight for participants is likely to be the participation of experts from the USA. The Geothermal Resources Council (GRC), will offer a workshop to explore the market for geothermal energy in this year’s partner country, the USA. In addition the European federation EGEC is represented with a workshop on the current European market development.

Prof. Dr. Horst Rüter, Head of the Scientific Committee: “We are pleased to be able to use the digital edition of the congress for a more extensive international exchange. This will also make it easier to host lectures from the partner country USA. We would like to thank GRC (USA) and the European association EGEC for their cooperation”.

In several digital business lounges of reputable sponsors and supporters such as Fraunhofer IEG, Storengy, Welltec, Jansen, HakaGerodur and Stadtwerke München, these companies will introduce themselves, present their services and products and invite to a professional get-together.

During the congress there will be, among other things, awards for the Patricius Medal, as well as for young scientists and participants in the “Science Bar” competition for young scientists.

The German Digital Geothermal Congress 2020 takes place from 9 to 13 November online. You can find the complete program in English and German language at: www.der-geothermiekongress.de
