Dominica is in discussions with the Clinton Climate Initiative of the Clinton Foundation for potential financial support for the country's geothermal development program.

The U.S.-based Clinton Climate Initiative has shown an interest in geothermal energy development in Caribbean island state Domimnica, as reported by local media.

The country, so the island’s ambassador to the UN, is now hoping that an agreement could be signed later this year with the Clinton Foundation to develop its geothermal energy sector programme.

There have been ongoing discussions started earlier in 2012 on support of the Clinton Climate Initiative as part of the Clinton Fundation, on support for the development of Dominica’s geothermal resources.

The country plans to build a geothermal plant by 2015 that could help the country to decrease its carbon emissions. Even exporting electricity to neighboring Martinique and Guadeloup via sea cables could be an option.

So far the country has spent $11 million (East Caribbean Dollar 33 million) on the project.
