Fuji Electric has been awarded the supply contract for the 35-MW geothermal power facility in Menengai, Kenya by Globeleq.

Fuji Electric has announced that it has been awarded a contract for the supply of a geothermal power facility for the 35-MW Menengai Geothermal Power Station in Kenya. Thee contract was awarded by Toyoto Tsusho Corporation which had previously entered an EPC contract with Quantum Power East Africa, a subsidiary of UK-based investment firm Globeleq.

The contract covers the manufacturing and supply of a geothermal steam turbine, generator, and other key equipment. The power plant is expected to start operations by 2025.

The Menengai project becomes the second geothermal power project awarded to Fuji Electric in Kenya, following the Olkaria I Unit 6 power plant back in 2018. Fuji Electric intends to further promote and expand our geothermal power generation facilities in Africa and contribute to economic development in the region and prevention of global warming.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the 35-MW geothermal power plant in Menengai was held only earlier this month with representatives from Globeleq, the Geothermal Development Company (GDC), and the regional and national governments. This will be the second geothermal power plant in the Menengai field. The first power plant, operated by Sosian Energy, is expected to start operations soon.
