As part of the state geothermal exploration drilling program, PT Geo Dipa Energi plans to start drilling at the Arjuno Welirang geothermal working area in East Java in 2023.

State-owned PT Geo Dipa Energi has announced plans to start exploration drilling at the Geothermal Working Area ( WKP) of Arjuno Welirang, East Java, in 2023.  “In the future Geo Dipa will develop Arjuno Welirang in East Java. For the development of Arjuno Welirang, drilling will be carried out in 2023. Currently, we are conducting socialization and changes to the Tahura for Useful Forests according to the National Strategy Project (PSN),” said Riki Firmandha Ibrahim, President Director of Geo Dipa Energi, to Dunia Energi.

Currently Geo Dipa Energi manages, among others, the Dieng Plateau WKP, Banjarnegara/Wonosobo, with a reserve capacity of 400 MW and has been operating for 60 MW; WKP Patuha, Bandung Regency with a reserve capacity of 400 MW and has been operating for 60 MW; WKP Candradimuka, Banjarnegara with a reserve capacity of 90 MW with exploration status; WKP Arjuno Welirang, which covers the districts of Mojokerto, Pasuruan Malang and Batu City; WKP Umbul Telomoyo Temple, which covers the Regencies of Semarang, Magelang, Boyolali, Tumegung and Salatiga City with a reserve capacity of 55 MW with an exploration stage status.

Geo Dipa which is the only BUMN (fully state-owned entity) engaged in the geothermal sector has the responsibility to manage the assignment of WKP given by the government, including utilization through construction and development projects.

The World Bank is noted to have disbursed grants of up to US$120 million without APBN to carry out exploration activities in 4 geothermal working areas in Indonesia. This program has been assigned by the government to state companies, including PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur Indonesia and PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero), as well as PT Penjaminan Infrastruktur Indonesia, to accelerate the increase in geothermal renewable energy development through Government Drilling.

The exploration drilling scheme has been arranged so that the grant funds that do not need to be returned can be reused as in the auction scheme, where compensation funds from the winning bidder will be used again to conduct exploration in other geothermal fields (Revolving Scheme).

Through this scheme, assuming a successful exploration ratio of 50%, the use of Geothermal Energy Upstream Development Program (GEUDP) funds is expected to be used for government drilling exploration program activities through Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 62 of 2017, at least in 7 geothermal areas. .

“The potential of WKP Arjuno Welirang is equivalent to around 200 MW and we are ready with the first 55-80 MW and then continue to grow until the reserves are there. My estimate is 150 MW,” said Riki.
