The China National Administration of Coal Geology has announced plans of putting up a geothermal research center in the Xiong'an New Area, China.

State-owned enterprise China National Administration of Coal Geology (CNACG) has announced plans of putting up a scientific research facility for geothermal energy in the Xiong’An New Area in North China.

The announcement was made by CNAGC Party Secretary Jia Chunqu during the inauguration ceremony for a CNAGC subsidiary in Xiong’An. CNAGC will be working with institutions and universities for the creation of a geothermal energy science and technology innovation and research center, leveraging its own advantages by integrating its geothermal technology and industrial resources.

“CNACG has unique advantages in the development and utilization of geothermal energy, the application of geophysical exploration technology in urban underground space, and comprehensive management of the ecological environment, which is highly consistent with the functional positioning and development direction of Xiong’an New Area,” Jia said.

Xiong’an New Area has been described as the “city of the future,” embodying Chinese modernization with high-quality, innovative, and green infrastructure.

China has been leading the world in terms of direct utilization of geothermal energy for heating, a fact that had been highlighted during last year’s World Geothermal Congress held in Beijing.
