Guatemala slowly growing renewable energy development
Guatemala is slowly expanding the weight that renewables and geothermal have on the overall energy mix. The latest figures from the country state that Geothermal generates up to 34 MW of power.
According to Power Engineering International, “Guatemala’s Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) forecasts that within the coming three years renewable energy sources will provide up to 12.5 per cent of the country’s energy mix.”

Geothermal developer U.S. Geothermal is planning to add up to 50 MW under a current MOU for a power purchase agreement at its El Ceibillo project in the country.
Centrum Geothermal and Adage Venture is another group planning geothermal development in the country.
So geothermal energy could play a big role in the renewable energy ambitions for Guatemala.
