Indonesian Minister of Finance highlights great role of geothermal for Indonesia

Opening the 6th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Expo, Indonesia's Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, highlighted the important role geothermal energy can play for Indonesia supporting its economic growth by e.g. cutting back on fossil fuel imports for energy generation.
In her keynote speech at the 6th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition (IIGCE), Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, highlighted the important role geothermal energy can play for Indonesia supporting its economic growth by e.g. cutting back on fossil fuel imports for energy generation.
In a previous role, Sri Mulyani Indrawati was Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at the World Bank responsible for its operations worldwide.
In her remarks, the Minister expressed optimism that the current level of economic growth in Indonesia has been very large.But in order for Indonesia to produce energy in a good and sustainable way, the Minister continued , Indonesia needs to diversify its energy sources.
“To get a strong economy, Indonesia needs an alternative energy source”, said Sri Mulyani Indrawati .
Geothermal is an alternative energy source that has great potential in Indonesia. We can learn a lot from the experience of the crisis experienced by the country of Iceland.
“Iceland used to be very dependent on oil until its balance of payments experienced a high deficit due to high oil imports and finally Iceland stopped using oil and replaced it with geothermal energy,” he explained.
Minister Of Finance advised, that Indonesia change its strategy so that it can accelerate all new renewable energy.
“In the future, geothermal can be a major energy source or at least hold a large portion,” said Sri Mulyani Indrawati .
PT. Geo Dipa Energi , a State-Owned company Owned by the Ministry Of Finance Is believed to be able to help develop energy sources and help accelerate various projects, especially those that can create sustainable alternative energy in the future and also the security of energy sources in Indonesia.
“I am sure that this is not only good for the environment but also good for the Indonesian economy,” the Minister concluded .
