The University of Geneva in Switzerland is looking for doctoral and post-doc researchers in seismology to be involved in an upcoming EGS project.
The Group of Crustal Deformation and Fluid Flow at the University of Geneva is seeking doctoral and postdoctoral researchers in seismology for a period of four and two years, respectively, starting in Fall 2023.
The interviews will start at the end of August and will continue until suitable profiles are found. The candidates, supported by industry, will work on seismic imaging methods for the exploration of the subsurface at the site of an upcoming Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) project in Switzerland. This project will benefit from a close collaboration with GeoEnergie Suisse, a geothermal company based in Switzerland.
The candidates will work mainly on the development and application of ambient noise tomography with dense nodal networks. The candidates are required to participate in fieldwork in the Swiss canton of Jura and in the other activities of the team. Strong programming skills including experience with HPC clusters and a good understanding of geological systems to gather site-specific geological/geophysical prior information are advantages.
The researcher will have the opportunity to teach in the framework of the MSc and BSc programs of the Department of Earth Sciences and will be encouraged to attend national and international conferences and publish in high-impact journals.
The required skills for these positions are:
- MSc and Ph.D. in seismology for the Ph.D. and PostDoc positions, respectively.
- Expertise in seismic data processing and tomography.
- Advanced programming skills (Python, Matlab, etc) and familiarity with Linux environments.
- Fluency in English.
The following skills are desired:
- Experience with applied seismology, e.g. for the geothermal sector.
- Experience and enthusiasm for fieldwork.
- Fluency in French and/or German
- Driving license.
