National Thermal Power Corp. and a local renewable energy agency have signed an MoU, for a geothermal power project in the Tattapani area of the Balrampur district in India.

Local media reports, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed for the development of a geothermal power plant project in the Tattapani area of the Balrampur district in India. Reported earlier here, there are several ongoing efforts to develop geothermal in India.

The MoU was signed between National Thermal Power Corp. (NTPC) and Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA).

According to the news, the local government has “granted permission to install a geothermal power plant”, which is described as the first geothermal power plant in the country.

Exploratory and preparatory work has already been started by NTPC, and discussions with ONGC and other international organizations are ongoing for drilling operations. Activities will be able to start within the next 24 months after a detailed project report has been finalised.

CREDA will act as a facilitator, but the responsibility of design and actually running the project will be managed by NTPC.
