Plans for new geothermal lagoon & hotel project in the Southwest of Iceland
A new proposed geothermal lagoon and hotel project in the Southwest of Iceland is planned on the country's famous Golden Circle touristic route.
A new planned geothermal resort in Iceland has received approval from Iceland’s National Planning Agency, as reported by Iceland Monitor.
The project plans to build a 200-room hotel and two geothermal lagoons at Efri-Reykir in the Southwest of Iceland.
The project is not far from the Geysir geothermal area and lies on the Golden Circle touristic route not far from the city of Reykjavik. With a two-phased development planned, the two geothermal lagoons are expected to cover up to 6,000 square meters or around 65,000 square feet combined.
Funding has not been secured for the project and it will have to be seen how the current economic situation, last but not least the hit to Iceland’s tourism will effect the project coming to fruition.
