The Municipality of Verona in Italy has granted a research permit to Geotermia Futura to explore the geothermal potential of some areas of the Veneto.

The Municipality of Verona in Italy, through the Council for Environment and Ecological Transition Tommaso Ferrari, has granted a research permit to Trentino-based company Geotermia Futura to investigate the potential geothermal resources in some areas of Veneto, including Verona.

The decision to grant the research permit was helped by the positive experience of the University of Verona with their geothermal system that has saved the university around EUR 2 million on electricity and gas expenses.

The granting of the research permit is considered the first step of a possible collaboration between Geotermia Futura and the municipality. As Ferrari pointed out, a geothermal project can provide district heating that is reliable, cheaper, sustainable, and 100% green. “This is why we will give all our support to verify the conditions for geothermal plants in our area,” added Ferrari.

Earlier this year, we reported on a 10-MW binary cycle geothermal power plant being given the go-ahead signal to proceed from Italy PM Mario Draghi.
