Subsidiary of Japan’s SoftBank to invest in geothermal

Renewables are getting more attention and interest, especially from a financial point of view. Japanese bank “SoftBank” and its subsidiary “SB Energy” dedicated to investing in renewable energy projects will be diversifying from investing in solar power to also looking into geothermal energy, according to local Japanese news.
According to Nikkei News, “SB Energy is surveying hot spring spots with potential geothermal resources in Niigate Prefecture, central Japan, for a plan to install geothermal power-generating capacity of 300KW with estimated investment of JPY100-1,000 million (US$0.80-8.03 million), Nikkei said. SB Energy plans to start construction of geothermal power-generating facilities in 2016-2017 and begin operations in 2020.”
SoftBank is composed of several business encompassing media, telecommunications, finance, internet, technology and other services.
