As part of the regular IGC Webinar series – a partnership of Enerchange and ThinkGeoEnergy – we are proud to host this week’s speakers Dr. Egbert Jolie and Anna Jentsch, from the GFZ Helmholtz-Centre Potsdam and Co-Founders of the fluxtec-Project, who will hold a presentation on “Advanced soil gas analytics – Implication for geothermal resources and beyond”.

Before joining the GFZ Helmholtz Centre Potsdam, Dr. Egbert Jolie has worked as a project coordinator at the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources BGR in Germany and at the Iceland GeoSurvey ÍSOR. Thereby, he has been involved in various geothermal projects in Africa, the USA, Iceland, Mexico and New Zealand. His research focuses on fault zone analysis in geothermal systems, based on innovative approaches to measuring gas emissions from the geosphere and atmosphere.

Anna Jentsch currently works as an exploration geologist in the Geothermal Department of the GFZ Helmholtz-Centre Potsdam. Already during her bachelor’s and master’s studies, she has been involved in several geothermal research projects in Germany, New Zealand and Ethiopia. Her main focus lies on the structural control within geothermal systems, the complexities of fluid flow in the upper crust and thus the implications for geothermal resource utilization. Together with Dr. Egbert Jolie, Anna Jentsch is the co-founder of fluxtec, a start-up project for gas analytics in geothermal exploration and monitoring.

Monitoring of natural degassing during the exploitation of a geothermal reservoir provides information on changes in its thermo-hydraulic-chemical-mechanical state (e.g. fault reactivation, cooling and heating) and may be used to calibrate reservoir models and optimize reservoir operations. The start-up project fluxtec aims to become an international service provider for gas analytics in geothermal projects and beyond. By entering the market, fluxtec contributes to the optimization and advancement of existing exploration and monitoring technologies by integrating safe, sustainable and innovative gas analytics within the entire life cycle of a geothermal project.
