The ARPA-E will be holding an informational webinar on 14 January 2025 to discuss the agency's interests in developing technologies for superhot geothermal.

The Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy (ARPA-E) will be holding an informational webinar to discuss the agency’s interest in the topic of superhot geothermal energy. The webinar will be held ahead of a planned Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) focus on the development of technology for the exploitation of superhot geothermal energy as a source of baseload electricity.

The webinar details are as follows:

Date: 14 January 2025

Time: 1:00 – 1:50 PM Eastern Time

Speaker: Dr Robert Mellors, ARPA-E Program Director

In late 2023, ARPA-E published an RFI for novel approaches to superhot enhanced geothermal power for electricity generation. The goal of this program is to maximize the operational lifespan and electricity yield from superhot geothermal energy reservoirs (defined as reservoirs having temperatures ?375°C and pressures ?22 MPa). Technical categories are expected to include well design and materials (e.g., casing and cement), validation and testing capabilities, and heat extraction from superhot geothermal reservoirs.
