As part of the GEORISK project, EGEC is holding a webinar on the financing of the decarbonisation of regions and cities with geothermal on October 6, 2020.

The European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) has announced an webinar organised in the framework of the GEORISK project and as part of the European Week of regions and cities.

  • Date: October 6, 2020
  • Time: 11:00 to 12:30 (CEST)
  • Venue: GoToWebinar

Investments in heating and cooling technologies happen mostly at local level, in cities and regions. However, large financial resources are not always available for local authorities and planning for renewables installations might be complex.

The webinar will show how local authorities can attract investors to finance geothermal district heating and cooling to make cities zero-carbon by 2050. It will also provide some instruments and business models to facilitate the planning of geothermal projects. With a series of hot topics presented by experts, the webinar caters to investors, local authorities, and the geothermal sector in general.

Draft Agenda

  • Introduction to the GEORISK project – Philippe Dumas, EGEC Secretary General
  • Role of local planning to enable renewable investments – Marie Lecompte, Geothermal energy manager, Geneva State’s Energy Department
  • Barriers to geothermal district heating and cooling projects – Sofia Lettenbichler, Policy & Projects Manager, Euroheat & Power
  • Policy solutions to facilitate the deployment of geothermal district heating and cooling – Thomas Garabetian, Senior Policy Adviser, EGEC Geothermal
  • Business models to finance geothermal projects – Miklos Antics, Managing Director, GPC IP
  • Questions & Answers – Conclusions
