Japanese group Orix Corp. sees wind and geothermal as key growth areas for the company with decreasing tariffs and space available for solar development in Japan.

Japanese group Orix  Corp. is continuing to push its drive into renewable energy assets, such as wind farms and geothermal projects, as reported by Reuters.

The company finds it increasingly difficult to extend its solar business in Japan due to limited land available for development.

Formerly a financial services company, it has built itself as one of the largest players when it comes to solar development in Japan.

Without suitable sites for solar development, the company sees an opportunity in wind and geothermal development in the country,

Orix currently is the fourth-largesst IPP in Japan to corporate customers.

The company is already developing several wind assets in Japan, but also building up assets in other countries in Asia.

Geothermal energy is explicitely named as one of the development and growth options for the company.

In 2013, Toshiba and Orix announced a cooperation on geothermal development and founded a geothermal power generation company,Nakao Geothermal Power Generation Corporation,  to develop a project in Nakao, Okuhida Onsen, Gifu Prefecture.

In 2014, we reported on feasibility studies of Orix on two sites in Japan, without further details available at this point in time.
