Africa is sitting on top of vast amounts of renewable energy such as hydro, geothermal, solar and wind power. If exploited correctly, the continent could trigger a green energy revolution.

A recent post in the World Bank Blog highlights the massive untapped resources to be exploited in Africa. After significant and consistent growth the last few decades, this potential is still to be exploited, and thanks to international collaboration and more participation from international players, Africa could start a green revolution, ensuring that the growing electricity and power needs are covered renewable energy and without increasing Co2 emissions in the near future.

“Expanding Africa’s access to electricity through grid, mini-grid, and off-grid solutions is a key element of our efforts to achieve the twin World Bank Group goals of ending extreme poverty and creating shared prosperity for all people of the continent. Furthermore, by meeting electricity demand with our plentiful renewable resources – hydro, geothermal, solar and wind – Africa can grow in an environmentally sustainable manner, with minimal additions to overall carbon emissions. Africa is poised to achieve green growth”

One of the higlights mentioned in the artticle is the the the first US-Africa Summit tackling issues such as affordable access to fam,ilies and small businesses acros the continent.
