The International Geothermal Association has announced the Request for Proposals to host the 2029 edition of the World Geothermal Congress.

The International Geothermal Association (IGA) has officially launched the Request for Proposals to host the World Geothermal Congress 2029.

More details on the RFP and the submission guidelines are available via this link. Submissions will be accepted only until 31 May 2025.

With a legacy spanning over three decades, the WGC is the premier platform for advancing geothermal development worldwide. The congress brings together global leaders from academia, industry, government, and NGOs to share solutions for a sustainable future.  The next edition, WGC2026, will be hosted in Calgary, Canada.

The IGA is now seeking proposals for the host of WGC2029. The destination must be a recognized geothermal region that offers opportunities to showcase local projects and innovations. The IGA accepts two financial models for WGC2029, and proposals state clearly which model is being proposed:

  • IGA-Led Model where the IGA retains full financial control and assumes financial risk of the event. The partner will play a critical role in securing funding, sponsorships, and local business support to cover high upfront costs.
  • Host-Led Model where a national geothermal association, industry consortium, or regional geothermal network will fully organize the event, thus taking full financial responsibility for the event. The IGA will provide oversight on content, branding, and overall event strategy.

Request for further information or clarification of requirements may be directed to contact@wgc2029.com.
