The EGEC has announced the six finalists for the 2023 Ruggero Bertani European Geothermal Innovation Award ahead of the selection of the winner on March 2023.

After the call for nominations, the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) has announced the six finalists for the 2023 Ruggero Bertani European Geothermal Innovation Award (EGIA). The final winner for this year’s competition will be announced on March 2023.

The six finalists are as follows:

  • Project INHIBIOSOURCExpert by BRGM (France)
  • ErdEis II: Frozen Soil Storage and Near-surface Geothermics by Energie Plus Concept (Germany)
  •  Geothermal Virtual Pump Intake Pressure by Halliburton (Netherlands)
  • Composite Downhole Tubulars by Huisman Geo (Netherlands)
  • CryoFLask by Norwegian Well AS (Norway)
  • Manufacturable hi-spec drill bits design library by ZerdaLab Ltd. (United Kingdom)

Details on each project are available on the EGEC website.

“Thanks to these innovations, we will reach a fantastic geothermal decade. All 20 applications from 12 different European countries had good quality. The 6 pre-selected finalists demonstrate benefits, improvements, replicability, and reliability of their innovation to develop geothermal. This Innovation award is a great opportunity to promote ingenious projects, and we are honoured to receive so many good and innovative projects every year’’, said Philippe Dumas, EGEC Secretary-General.

An initiative of the EGEC, the Ruggero Bertani EGIA is given to companies that have made outstanding contributions towards the field of geothermal energy in the form of innovative products, scientific research and project initiatives. Last year’s EGIA was awarded to Baker Hughes for the project “Corrosion Resistant Podded Electrical Submersible Pump & Completion System.”
