The geothermal fruit drying facility in Alasehir Municipality, Turkiye presented within the scope of the 2022 Social Development Support Program has been approved.

The Healthy Fruit Drying Facility Project with Geothermal Energy, submitted to Zafer Development Agency within the scope of the 2022 Social Development Support Program (SOGEP) by Alasehir Municipality, Turkiye, has been approved.

As we reported in 2019, the project “Fruit and Vegetable Dehydration with Sustainable Geothermal Energy”, prepared by the Alasehir Municipality of Manisa, was selected as the first in the world. Alasehir district, located in the west of Turkiye, draws attention as the city with the hottest water in the country and the fourth in the world.

2,000,000 TL (approx. USD 107,000) of the total budget of 3,086,215 TL (approx. USD 165,000) for the Geothermal Energy and Healthy Fruit Drying Facility, designed by Alasehir Municipality, will be covered by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. The remaining part of the project budget will be covered by the Alasehir Chamber of Commerce and Industry within the scope of co-financing. The facility area and the geothermal energy needed by the facility are provided by ZORLU Energy will be financed by Alasehir Municipality will carry out the construction of the building belonging to the facility.

At the first stage, all fruits grown in the district, especially apples, pears, persimmons, grapes, can be dried according to the season. The facility is operated by project partner Alasehir S.S. Alasehir Women’s Initiative will be made by the Production and Business Cooperative and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Earlier this year, a similar geothermal drying facility for vegetables and fruits started operations in Balikesir, Turkiye.
